Welcome! Please take a moment to review my profile below to ensure my approach is the right fit for you.

About me

I'm George, a Warwick graduate with a First-Class Master's degree in Mathematics. I offer tailored 1-on-1 weekly sessions, ideal for students serious about committing time & effort to their long-term success.

Tutoring Experience

Tutoring is my full-time career, not a side hustle. In less than four years since joining PMT, I have delivered over 5,500 hours of teaching – yet this represents just the most recent chapter of my work.

With over a decade of full-time tutoring experience, I offer a highly refined approach built on years of daily, one-on-one lessons. Having guided hundreds of students through these exam boards, I can anticipate common misconceptions and pinpoint exactly what examiners look for, ensuring my support is targeted and effective.

Tutor Rapport

I take this job seriously, but I don't take myself too seriously. My sessions are focused and challenging, but they are also light-hearted and friendly. I want this to be an hour you actually look forward to each week.

I build real, long-term partnerships with my students. On PMT alone, I have mentored over 100 students, averaging 45 sessions each. They don't just drop in for a quick fix; most lock in weekly lessons right up to the day they walk into the exam hall.

Parents stay for the consistent progress, regular feedback, and growing student independence. Students stay because I adapt to their personalities, build their confidence, and transform a 'dry' subject into a genuinely engaging hour.

Subject Specialisation

My expertise is singular: Mathematics. I specialise exclusively in GCSE, A-Level Maths, and Further Maths. Having dedicated over a decade to these curricula, my syllabus knowledge is second nature – I never need to 'refresh' before a lesson. I provide my students with a library of tailored resources and strategic exam guidance, specifically adapted to the nuances of each exam board.

I offer support with the following Further Maths modules:
• Pearson Edexcel – Core Pure 1 & 2, Further Pure 1, Further Statistics 1, Further Mechanics 1
• AQA – Core Further Maths content, Mechanics, Statistics
• OCR A – Pure Core 1 & 2, Statistics, Mechanics, Additional Pure
• OCR B (MEI) – Core Pure, Mechanics major/minor, Statistics major/minor, Extra Pure
• Edexcel IAL – Further Pure 1, 2 & 3, Mechanics 1 & 2, Statistics 1 & 2

Weekly Commitment

Maths is not a subject you can cram; the syllabus is vast, cumulative, and interlinked. Mastering this material requires steady momentum. I've found that sporadic or fortnightly sessions don't give students the consistent support they need. That is why I stick exclusively to weekly sessions, allowing us to build confidence and deep understanding steadily over time.

Qualifications

• Master of Mathematics (MMath), University of Warwick: 1st Class (84%).
• A-Levels: A*A*A*A (A* in Maths and Further Maths).

Results

Rather than relying on generalised statistics or grand promises, I prefer to let the experiences of my past students speak for themselves – you'll find detailed feedback from parents and students in my reviews on my PMT profile.

Tutoring style

Mathematics is not a spectator sport. Learning happens when students apply and challenge themselves. In my sessions, students are actively engaged: attempting examples, making mistakes, and learning from those mistakes.

One of the greatest advantages of 1-on-1 tutoring over a traditional classroom is the freedom it brings. Students have a private space where they can think out loud, get things wrong, and ask anything without the pressure of an audience. That is why my tutorials are a zero-judgement environment. I am very patient; no question is ever too silly, and I will happily explain a concept as many times – and in as many different ways – as it takes until it clicks.

Lesson Blueprint

Skimming multiple topics creates the illusion of progress, but true mastery requires depth. That is why my sessions target only one or two specific areas of difficulty at a time.

• Review: Pinpoint and resolve any knowledge gaps from homework.
• Simplify: Break down complex methods using intuitive examples.
• Automate: Drill core techniques to build speed and accuracy.
• Challenge: Apply the theory to unfamiliar, multi-step exam questions.
• Consolidate: Wrap up with feedback and assign homework.

Commitment and Expectations

Weekly tuition is an investment. I want to ensure I take on students who are willing to put in the work to get the most out of it:
• Motivation: Tuition yields the best results when it is driven by the student – they must actively want these sessions.
• Effort: Lessons are only half the equation. Our weekly tutorials are a great catalyst for understanding, but a significant increase in grades requires a significant increase in independent effort. True progress happens in the days between our lessons.
• Time: Students will need roughly two hours available each week to dedicate to my two-part homework system, which is rooted in cognitive science:

• Targeted Worksheets: Exercises designed to solidify the methods we covered until they become automatic, immediately highlighting any hidden gaps.
• Mixed Quizzes: Low-stakes weekly quizzes that challenge students to regularly revisit past topics. This builds long-term retention and trains students to choose the right methods without prompts.

To gauge your starting point and tailor our initial sessions, I may also send over a short diagnostic worksheet before our first lesson.

Resources & Setup

I use a professional setup for crystal-clear, distraction-free lessons. Beyond my setup, students benefit from a comprehensive database of over 20,000 categorised past-paper questions that I have curated over the last ten years. If a student struggles with an obscure or highly specific question, I can immediately pull up several similar examples for us to practice until the concept clicks. For your peace of mind, all lessons are recorded so that students and parents can review them anytime.

Weekly Progress Reports

After every session, parents receive a comprehensive report detailing the concepts covered, progress made, areas for improvement, and the plan for the next lesson. This includes a clear log of all homework and quiz completion, so you’ll never have to wonder whether the independent practice is actually getting done.

Predictive Practice Papers (UK)

After Paper 1, generic revision materials become inefficient and cover topics unlikely to reappear. To address this, I analyse the concepts already assessed and build bespoke practice papers targeting only the remaining material. This gives my students a distinct edge heading into Paper 2.

FAQ

  • 'Can I book a free trial or meeting?'
    ◦ PMT does not offer free trials or meetings. However, you can book an initial 1-on-1 session so the student can experience my teaching style firsthand and ensure we are a good fit before committing to ongoing weekly sessions.

  • 'Can I contact you by email/phone?'
    ◦ Following safeguarding guidelines, all contact must take place on PMT.

  •  'I'm sitting exams privately. Can you provide my UCAS predicted grade and reference?'
    ◦ I cannot provide predicted grades or references myself. However, my previous private students have successfully navigated this by asking their school or a private exam centre to let them sit internal mock papers to generate a prediction.

  •  'Can you guarantee my target grade?'
    ◦ No tutor can honestly make this claim. As your tutor, I will provide individualised support, resources, and guidance to help you achieve your best. However, your grade will ultimately reflect the effort and dedication you invest in your studies.
